The post-80s college students quit to make high-end chopsticks, and customized golden nanmu yellow pear for local tyrants

Chopsticks are the tableware that Chinese people use every day. It's a kind of happiness for a family to sit together and taste delicious food and enjoy the rare reunion time! Recently, however, Chinese chopsticks have become a hot topic because of controversy. For this reason, the photographer visited the studio of Wang Shun, a craftsman in Guyuan, Ningxia, and recorded the birth of a pair of chopsticks.
When I saw Wang Shun, he was making a pair of chopsticks. It was a custom-made sandalwood chopstick.

Wang Shun university after the 80s majored in design. Because his grandfather was a carpenter, he liked the job of carpenter since childhood.

After graduating from university and working in the Design Institute for four years, he resigned and set up his own studio, mainly engaged in the customization of wooden furniture and daily necessities. Chopsticks are also a product of his studio.
Wang Shun introduced that chopsticks are very particular about materials. Generally, chopsticks used in families are mostly made of birch and bamboo. Of course, there are also expensive wood materials such as nanmu and huanghuali, which make them rich and auspicious.

You will find that most chopsticks are square at one end and round at the other end, which symbolizes a round sky and around the place. In addition, most chopsticks are six inches and seven minutes long (about 25cm), which represents people's feelings and desires.

The making of a pair of chopsticks is not a simple matter. It needs to go through material selection, material opening, drying, sizing, polishing and so on. In addition, it needs to be sterilized by high temperature or ultraviolet rays.

Wang Shun said, "it's just making. We learned how to use chopsticks when we were young. This is enlightenment and inheritance. When we worship our old friends, it's a kind of missing to put on the chopsticks. When we call our neighbors for dinner on the new year's day, we often say that many people and many pairs of chopsticks are harmonious among neighbors, etc."
